Social program

During the ESSEE 2015 conference, we will organise an extensive social program:

 

Monday, June 22, 19:00: Dinner

On Monday, we will organize a nice dinner for all the participants to get to know each other.

 

Tuesday, June 23, 18:30: Poster session

On Tuesday, all participants can present their posters and get inspired by the work of others. During the poster session, drinks and food will be served.

 

Wednesday, June 24, 13:30: Outdoor activity

On Wednesday afternoon, we will have lunch together and thereafter, participants can join one of the following activities:

  • Sailing
    Join us on a Skûtsje, a typical Frisian sailing boat, and enjoy the beautiful nature conservation area De Alde Feanen, 15 km. from Leeuwarden. We will arrange transportation to De Alde Feanen and back to Leeuwarden. Ability to sail or swim is not required.

  • Canoeing
    Do you want to do some outdoor exercise after two days of intensive lectures and workshops? Choose for canoeing in the beautiful nature conservation area De Alde Feanen, 15 km. from Leeuwarden. We will arrange transportation to De Alde Feanen and back to Leeuwarden. Ability to swim is required.

  • City tour in Leeuwarden (including a boat tour)
    Do you want to learn more about the history of Leeuwarden? Choose for the city tour! The city tour includes a walk and a boat tour through the canals.

At the registration form for the summer school, registrants can indicate their own preferences.

On Wednesday, we do not arrange the dinner.

 

Thursday, June 25, evening: Gala dinner

The last evening of the summer school, we will organize a sparkling gala dinner. Evert van der Werfhorst will challenge the group of scientists with the central question: “Why do you do what you do and what impact will it make?”

Evert van de Werfhorst is an entrepreneur with special interest in transferring science to business. He founded Capilix, a company based on microchip Capillary Electrophoresis technology, and successfully built the company from a scientific idea into a profitable business. He recently sold Capilix to Metrohm, a Swiss multinational, specialized in analytical technology. He is now acting as entrepreneur/investor in IZER, a company he recently founded with his business partner Anna Farrenkopf. They want to play a leading role in the water network in Leeuwarden in transferring the developed know how into business.
